Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks
Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks have been used by illustrators since their introduction by Winsor & Newton in the 1890’s, where the main requirement is brilliance of colour. Today the range of fast-drying, water-resistant colours are formulated from a series of soluble dyes in a superior shellac solution with the exception of black, which is made from pigments and are lightfast. The Black Indian Ink is pigment based allowing the ink to have washes painted on top without bleeding. Black ink was known as masi in India. It was only in the mid 17th century, when Europe began importing ink from India, that it became known as Indian ink.
These inks can be applied with brush, dip pen or airbrush and are now widely used by designers, calligraphers and artists as well as illustrators.
