Tutor: Trevor Osborne
The workshop will be an opportunity to work en plein air in the beautiful environment of the Waveney Valley. It will be suitable for beginners or experienced artists. Following a briefing about materials and equipment the class will practice a strategy for selecting and composing plein air. It is intended, weather permitting, to work outside within walking distance of 400 yards of the studio. If the weather is too poor then we will use images and photography of the area to simulate the outdoor experience.
The workshop will prepare students to:
1 Choose equipment suitable for plain air pastel painting
2 Have a strategy for choosing subjects and refining composition ready to paint
3 Select a palette of colours for changing environments and seasons
4 Know how to refine work back in the studio
5 Have strategies for dealing with potential problems from high winds to overly keen observers.
Students will need to bring their own equipment and materials (e.g. paint, surface, brushes, easel, medium/water). We also recommend that students wear suitable clothing for working outdoors (e.g. sun hat/umbrella), a packed lunch and drinks.
Date: Thursday 17th August – 10.00 to 3pm
